About Us
Purpose
It can be said that to be a true leader, one must look to the future as a result of not only the present but also of the actions of the past. Leaders honestly believe they can change the world and are committed to the fight, win or lose. For those who achieve, it brings a sense of accomplishment and fulfillment of one’s true destiny.
As women, it is our destiny and birthright to maintain our stature of liberty and pursuit of happiness. However, as women we have been limited by what researchers call the “glass ceiling". As women of color, the obstacles we face too often turn this glass ceiling into a “concrete ceiling”. Data shows that we have made progress by “chipping away” at the obstacles that inhibit our progress, but the work is far from done. The key to further progress is our ability to provide a network that will support our aspirations for the next generation of women of color leaders.
Women of Destiny are empowered, successful, dedicated and committed to serving as mentors and supporters to women of color in the trenches of business, community and politics.
As Women of Destiny, we have actively participated in the political, community and business systems from which we have benefited both as citizens, entrepreneurs, executives and advocates. We know the importance of having our voices heard and making sure that our community benefits. Historically, leadership has been greatly influenced by men. Despite the progress of women in the realms of business, politics and community, we have failed to reach equal footing with our male counterparts.
As we continue our struggle, we have started to ask ourselves, where is the next generation of women who will take over when our generation retires? What do they need from us? How is their struggle different from ours? The time is now to answer these questions. Those of us who are presently serving must have a strategy to pass the torch to the next generation of women of color leaders. The time is now, every minute counts. We can have an impact and change the paradigm by highlighting young women and supporting their aspirations to become our new leaders.
